Bag of Dungeon is a light, fun dungeon-crawl game that suits everyone from beginners to casual players.
What is Bag of Dungeon
Bag of Dungeon is a tile-laying dungeon crawler for 1 to 4 players. You explore underground passages, fight monsters, gather loot, and try to escape past a dragon while competing (or cooperating) with others.
Components & Setup
You get dungeon tiles, monster tiles, item cards, hero cards, dice, and wooden markers. Everything is designed to fit neatly — the game is literally “in a bag.” You pick one hero (like Elf, Fighter, Healer, Dwarf) and start from the dungeon entrance. The dungeon grows as players draw and place tiles.
How Gameplay Works
Each turn you spend action points to move, place tiles, fight, or use items. When you uncover tiles, monsters or treasures appear. Combat is resolved with dice rolls plus modifiers from weapons or stats. If your hero runs out of health, you lose a life — you may drop items and return to start.
Monsters generally stay put in standard rules, so they don’t chase you (unless you use advanced rules).
Game Modes & Variants
- Cooperative / Semi-cooperative: Players work together until the Ring is found, then betrayal may begin.
- Competitive mode: After the Ring is discovered, players can fight each other; whoever escapes with the Ring (and kills) wins.
- Advanced rules: Monsters may move toward attackers or reactions to ranged attacks.
- Solo play: You can play alone by managing multiple heroes.

The Hobbit Board Game – Rules & Gameplay
Strengths
- Very easy to learn — you can teach it quickly.
- High replay value — the dungeon layout changes each game.
- Compact and portable — it doesn’t need a huge table or lots of pieces.
- The betrayal twist adds tension when the Ring appears.
- Flexible difficulty — advanced rules let you make it harder or more chaotic.
Weaknesses
- Not very deep — lacks complex tactics compared to heavier games.
- Endgame downtime can occur — when only a few monsters remain, some players may wait.
- Art and components are simple — may feel less premium to some.
- Monsters usually don’t move — reduces pressure in parts of the game.
- Luck is strong — dice and tile draws can swing your success.
Who Will Like It
This game fits well for families, casual gamers, or people new to dungeon crawlers. It’s also good as a lighter “warm-up” or filler game between heavier titles. If you enjoy long campaigns or deep strategy, it may feel a bit too light.
Overall Impressions
Bag of Dungeon is a nice balance of simplicity and fun. Its design makes it welcoming for new players, yet the betrayal and variant rules keep it interesting for seasoned players too.
