Dasha is one of those artists who can seamlessly mix pop melodies with heartfelt country storytelling. Born Anna Dasha Novotny on February 27, 2000, in San Luis Obispo, California, her journey to fame was shaped by passion and perseverance.
A Musical Start at Home
Growing up, Dasha’s home was filled with music. Her father played an instrumental role in managing her early performances, while her brother, Bardo, inspired her creativity as a guitarist for Beauty School Dropout. She picked up the guitar and piano by the age of eight, often writing her own songs.
When I first heard her song “Don’t Mean a Thing,” it took me back to the time I was learning to write lyrics. It’s the rawness in her music that makes it relatable, as if she’s sharing a secret with you.
Breaking Through with “$hiny Things”
Dasha’s debut EP, $hiny Things, was a game-changer in 2021. It reflected her early explorations of pop music, showcasing catchy rhythms and vibrant lyrics. Tracks like “More Than This” resonated with fans who were navigating life and relationships in their early twenties.

Her authenticity reminded me why people connect to music—it’s about emotions we all feel but struggle to express.
Stepping into Country with “Austin”
In 2023, Dasha surprised everyone with her single Austin. This wasn’t just another song; it was her first foray into country music. The track peaked at number 19 on the Billboard Hot 100 in mid-2024, marking her as a rising star in the country-pop crossover space.
Country music is all about storytelling, and Austin captured the bittersweet nature of love and loss beautifully.
The Album “Dirty Blonde” and Beyond
Dasha’s first full-length album, Dirty Blonde, released in 2023, was a hit. It combined playful pop beats with emotionally charged lyrics. Soon after, her second album, What Happens Now?, came out in early 2024, further solidifying her place in the industry.
I often tell my students in songwriting workshops that an artist’s growth is visible through their albums, and Dasha’s work proves this.
A Voice That Connects
Dasha’s popularity soared as she performed at prestigious events, from the CMT Music Awards in Austin to international appearances in Sweden and Canada. Beyond her music, she’s gained a following on social media, where she connects with fans through behind-the-scenes stories and updates.
Balancing Fame and Life
What makes Dasha truly inspiring is her openness about mental health. She’s shared how she balances the pressures of a fast-paced career with activities like horseback riding and playing pickleball. This honesty makes her not just an artist but someone fans can look up to.
Dasha’s rise in the music industry shows how staying true to your roots and embracing growth can create something extraordinary. Whether you’re a fan of pop, country, or both, her music is bound to leave a mark.
