The ASUS TUF Gaming B650-Plus WiFi is a well-rounded AM5 motherboard built for gamers who want strong CPU power delivery, DDR5 memory, fast NVMe storage, 2.5Gb Ethernet, and integrated Wi-Fi without moving into expensive enthusiast-class motherboards.
It is particularly attractive for Ryzen 7000 and newer AM5 processors, although its lack of PCIe 5.0 graphics support and relatively limited rear I/O are worth considering before buying.

ASUS specifies four DDR5 DIMM slots with support for up to 256GB, EXPO support, three M.2 slots, four SATA ports, 2.5Gb Ethernet, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and a 20Gbps USB Type-C port on the rear I/O.
One important detail is that advertised memory speeds depend on the processor, DIMM configuration, and memory kit. Therefore, DDR5-7600+ should not be interpreted as a guaranteed plug-and-play speed for every Ryzen CPU.
AM5 Platform and CPU Compatibility
The B650-Plus WiFi is based on the AMD AM5 platform, giving it access to a much newer CPU ecosystem than older AM4 motherboards.
ASUS currently lists compatibility with Ryzen 7000, Ryzen 8000, and Ryzen 9000 series desktop processors. That makes the board substantially more interesting as a long-term platform than it was at launch, when the B650 generation was primarily associated with Ryzen 7000.
This matters if you are building a new gaming PC rather than upgrading an existing AM4 machine. You can start with a mid-range Ryzen processor and potentially move to a faster compatible AM5 CPU later, subject to ASUS’s CPU support and BIOS requirements.
For a gaming system, pairing this motherboard with a Ryzen 5, Ryzen 7, or Ryzen 9 processor is reasonable. PC Gamer’s testing is particularly useful here: its reviewer ran a Ryzen 9 7950X on the board without issue and found the VRM cooling capable of handling the demanding processor.
VRM and Power Delivery
The motherboard’s power delivery is one of its strongest features.
ASUS lists a 12(60A)+2(60A)+2 power-stage design, while PC Gamer describes it as a 12+2 design with 60A stages. The board also uses substantial VRM heatsinks to help dissipate heat around the CPU socket.
In practical terms, this means the board isn’t simply designed for low-power Ryzen chips. It has enough electrical and thermal capacity for considerably more demanding processors.
PC Gamer’s Ryzen 9 7950X test is especially reassuring. The reviewer reported that the processor ran without problems and that the VRM heatsinks remained comfortable with appropriate case airflow, including with PBO enabled.
That makes the motherboard a much better proposition than budget AM5 boards that cut heavily into their VRM design.
Is the VRM good enough for Ryzen 7?
Yes.
A Ryzen 7 processor is comfortably within the intended capability of this motherboard. You do not need a high-end X670E or X870E motherboard simply because you are using a Ryzen 7 CPU.
Is it good enough for Ryzen 9?
It can be.
Independent testing with a Ryzen 9 7950X showed that the power delivery and cooling were capable of handling a high-end AM5 processor. However, CPU cooling and case airflow still matter. A motherboard cannot compensate for an inadequate CPU cooler or poorly ventilated case.
DDR5 Memory Support
The B650-Plus WiFi uses DDR5 memory exclusively. It has four DIMM slots and supports dual-channel memory.
ASUS lists support for memory speeds extending to DDR5-7600+ through overclocking, although the actual achievable speed depends on the CPU, DIMM configuration, memory kit, and other factors. The board also supports AMD EXPO, making compatible DDR5 kits easier to configure.
For most gaming systems, there is little reason to chase the highest number printed on the specification sheet.
A quality DDR5 kit with an appropriate EXPO profile is a more sensible choice than buying extremely expensive memory simply because the motherboard advertises very high overclocked frequencies.
The board also supports up to 256GB of DDR5 according to ASUS’s current specifications, giving it considerable capacity for workstation-style applications as well as gaming.
M.2 and Storage Options
Storage support is another strong area.
The motherboard provides three M.2 slots and four SATA 6Gb/s ports. With supported Ryzen 7000 and 9000 processors, the primary M.2 slot supports PCIe 5.0 x4, while the other M.2 slots use PCIe 4.0 connectivity.
The primary PCIe 5.0 M.2 slot gives the system a route toward extremely fast next-generation NVMe SSDs.
However, don’t confuse theoretical bandwidth with noticeable gaming performance.
A PCIe 5.0 SSD can deliver impressive sequential transfer figures, but that doesn’t automatically mean games will load twice as fast as they do from a good PCIe 4.0 SSD. For a gaming build, a quality PCIe 4.0 NVMe drive remains a perfectly sensible choice.
The third M.2 slot also shares bandwidth with the secondary PCIe x16 slot. ASUS states that PCIEX16_2 is suspended when M.2_3 is populated.
That is an important detail for users planning several expansion cards.
PCIe Expansion
The primary graphics slot is based on PCIe 4.0 x16 for supported Ryzen 7000 and 9000 processors. The chipset also provides another PCIe x16 physical slot operating at up to x4, plus two PCIe x1 slots.
This is where the motherboard shows its age compared with newer enthusiast platforms.
There is no PCIe 5.0 x16 connection for the graphics card. PC Gamer specifically identified the lack of PCIe 5.0 GPU support as one of the board’s disadvantages.
But this needs to be put into perspective.
For a conventional gaming PC with one modern graphics card, PCIe 4.0 x16 is still a very capable interface. The absence of PCIe 5.0 GPU connectivity does not suddenly make an RTX or Radeon graphics card perform poorly.
The more relevant question is whether you personally need PCIe 5.0 graphics support. If you do not, paying substantially more for a motherboard purely to obtain that feature can be difficult to justify.
Wi-Fi and Ethernet
Networking is one of the reasons to buy the WiFi version rather than a cheaper wired-only motherboard.
The B650-Plus WiFi includes Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and a Realtek 2.5Gb Ethernet controller.
The 2.5Gb Ethernet connection is particularly useful if you have a compatible network, NAS, or fast local file-transfer setup.
Wi-Fi 6 is also perfectly adequate for most homes. However, PC Gamer criticized the board for using Wi-Fi 6 rather than Wi-Fi 6E, so buyers specifically looking for access to the 6GHz Wi-Fi band should look elsewhere.
This is a feature limitation, not a fundamental gaming problem.
For ordinary internet gaming, the quality of your router, signal strength, network congestion, and ISP connection can matter much more than simply moving from Wi-Fi 6 to a newer Wi-Fi standard.

The weakness appears when you compare it with workstation-oriented motherboards. Content creators using several high-speed external SSDs, capture hardware, USB interfaces, and other peripherals may want more high-speed connectivity.
PCWorld made essentially this point in its review, identifying the relatively limited number of M.2 slots and the more gamer-focused I/O as drawbacks for users who need extensive connectivity.
BIOS and Ease of Use
ASUS’s BIOS is one of the board’s better features.
The motherboard includes UEFI BIOS, BIOS FlashBack, Q-LED diagnostic indicators, and several ASUS Q-Design features intended to make installation and troubleshooting easier.
BIOS FlashBack is particularly useful because it can make certain BIOS updates easier when installing newer CPUs.
The BIOS also provides access to CPU and memory tuning features, including AMD Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO) and EXPO memory profiles. PCWorld noted that the BIOS offers plenty of adjustment options while still allowing less experienced users to simply enable an EXPO profile and leave the more advanced settings alone.
That balance is important.
A good motherboard should not require users to become overclocking experts just to configure a gaming PC.
Cooling and Fan Support
ASUS has equipped the board with substantial VRM heatsinks and M.2 heatsink coverage.
The official specification lists:

Still, don’t make the mistake of assuming motherboard VRM cooling replaces case airflow. It doesn’t.
A powerful CPU, GPU, and several NVMe drives can generate significant heat. Good front-to-back airflow remains important.
Build Quality and Design
The TUF Gaming branding gives the board a rugged, military-inspired appearance, but the actual design is relatively restrained.
PCWorld described it as minimalist and noted that the darker color scheme and limited accents make it look purposeful rather than cheap. The board also uses heatsinks over the M.2 areas and includes a pre-mounted rear I/O shield.
The pre-installed I/O shield is a small feature, but it makes motherboard installation easier and eliminates one of the most annoying little parts of a PC build.
ASUS also includes several TUF protection and Q-Design features, including SafeSlot Core+, TUF LANGuard, ESD protection, M.2 Q-Latch, Q-DIMM, and Q-LED diagnostics.
Audio Quality
The motherboard uses a Realtek 7.1-channel high-definition audio codec and provides five rear audio jacks.
ASUS lists audio shielding, premium audio capacitors, dedicated PCB audio layers, a power pre-regulator, and other audio-related features.
For gaming headsets, speakers, and everyday desktop audio, the integrated solution should be sufficient for most users.
Audiophiles and professional audio users may still prefer a dedicated DAC or audio interface. That’s not really a criticism of this motherboard; integrated motherboard audio simply isn’t designed to replace specialized studio hardware.
Software and RGB Features
The motherboard supports ASUS’s Aura Sync ecosystem and provides multiple addressable RGB headers.
ASUS also provides software such as Armoury Crate, Fan Xpert 4, AI Suite 3, MyASUS, and other utilities for controlling and monitoring the system.
If you want extensive RGB control, fan tuning, and motherboard management from Windows, the ecosystem is useful.
If you prefer a clean Windows installation with minimal motherboard software, however, you don’t need to install every ASUS utility.
In fact, for many users, the best approach is simple: install the required drivers and only the ASUS utilities you actually need.
Gaming Performance
A motherboard does not normally provide a meaningful FPS advantage over another motherboard when both use the same CPU, memory configuration, graphics card, and operating conditions.
That’s why motherboard reviews should focus less on meaningless FPS comparisons and more on the platform’s ability to deliver stable CPU power, memory support, storage bandwidth, connectivity, and upgrade options.
The B650-Plus WiFi checks those boxes.
PCWorld concluded that the board delivered the essential performance features expected from a B650 motherboard and considered it particularly well suited to gamers looking for value.
PC Gamer similarly concluded that it was a strong option for a budget-conscious gamer using an AM5 processor, especially when paired with a single graphics card and fast SSD.
In other words, don’t buy this motherboard expecting it to magically increase FPS. Buy it because it gives your CPU, RAM, GPU, and storage a solid platform.
ASUS TUF B650-Plus WiFi Pros
Strong VRM
The 12(60A)+2(60A)+2 power-stage configuration is more than adequate for a broad range of AM5 CPUs, and independent testing demonstrated that it could handle a Ryzen 9 7950X.
PCIe 5.0 NVMe Support
The primary M.2 slot supports PCIe 5.0 x4 with compatible Ryzen 7000 and 9000 processors, giving the board a useful high-speed storage upgrade path.
2.5Gb Ethernet
The 2.5Gb LAN connection is faster than conventional gigabit Ethernet and is useful for compatible home networks and local file transfers.
Integrated Wi-Fi
You don’t need to purchase a separate Wi-Fi card, and Bluetooth 5.2 is also included.
BIOS FlashBack
BIOS FlashBack can simplify firmware updates and is a useful feature when dealing with CPU compatibility.

Because the board uses AM5 and ASUS lists current support for Ryzen 7000, 8000, and 9000 desktop processors, it has a broader upgrade path than an older AM4 platform.
ASUS TUF B650-Plus WiFi Cons
No PCIe 5.0 GPU Slot
The primary GPU slot is PCIe 4.0, not PCIe 5.0. PC Gamer specifically listed this as a disadvantage.
For most gamers, that isn’t a serious problem. For someone building specifically around future PCIe 5.0 graphics hardware, it may matter.
Only Three M.2 Slots
Three M.2 slots are enough for most gaming PCs, but users with several NVMe drives may prefer a board with more storage expansion. PCWorld also identified the three-M.2 arrangement as one of the board’s limitations.
Wi-Fi 6 Instead of Wi-Fi 6E
The current ASUS specifications list Wi-Fi 6. Buyers who specifically want 6GHz wireless connectivity will need another motherboard.

This is not an enthusiast motherboard pretending to be one.
You don’t get the enormous expansion capability, premium connectivity, or PCIe 5.0 graphics interface found on some considerably more expensive boards.

Who Should Buy the ASUS TUF B650-Plus WiFi?
This motherboard makes the most sense for someone building a mainstream or high-performance gaming PC around an AM5 Ryzen processor.
It is particularly suitable if you want:

- DDR5 memory
- One high-performance graphics card
- One to three NVMe SSDs
- Built-in Wi-Fi

- Reasonable upgrade potential
For that type of system, buying a much more expensive motherboard can be difficult to justify.
Who Should Avoid It?
You should consider another motherboard if you need:
- PCIe 5.0 x16 graphics support
- More than three M.2 drives
- Extensive high-speed USB connectivity
- Wi-Fi 6E or newer wireless standards
- A workstation-oriented expansion layout
- Multiple high-bandwidth PCIe devices
PCWorld specifically points toward higher-end options for content creators who need more I/O and NVMe expansion, while PC Gamer identifies PCIe 5.0 GPU support and Wi-Fi 6E as notable omissions.
Is the ASUS TUF B650-Plus WiFi Worth It?
Yes—but only if the price makes sense.
That last part matters.
The motherboard originally launched with a $239 MSRP, according to PCWorld. At that price, the competition was already strong, and PC Gamer also noted that competing boards could offer better value.
The situation is different when the board is discounted.
If you find the TUF B650-Plus WiFi significantly cheaper than newer or better-equipped alternatives, its combination of VRM quality, DDR5 support, PCIe 5.0 storage, Wi-Fi 6, 2.5Gb Ethernet, and BIOS features becomes compelling.
But if a newer motherboard costs only slightly more and gives you substantially better connectivity or newer wireless support, blindly buying the TUF because it has a TUF badge would be a mistake.
The motherboard market is extremely price-sensitive.
