SNES Mini is a small, easy-to-use console loaded with classic games.
What Is SNES Mini
SNES Mini (also called Super NES Classic Edition) is a compact version of the original SNES. It uses internal memory to store 21 games. It has HDMI output and uses USB for power.
Game Library and Highlights
The console comes with 21 preloaded games. Titles include Super Mario World, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Donkey Kong Country, Super Metroid, Final Fantasy III, EarthBound, Super Mario RPG and Kirby Super Star. It also includes Star Fox 2, which was never officially released before.
Games cover many genres: platformers, RPGs, action, fighting, and two-player games.
Emulation, Features & Gameplay
Games run smoothly with low input lag. The device supports save states (you can save at almost any moment) and rewind (you can go back a few seconds if you make a mistake). You can choose to display games in original 4:3 ratio or use filters (including CRT style). The menu is simple: scroll left or right to pick games, sort by name, publisher, player count, etc.
While playing, pressing the console’s reset button takes you back to menu and allows you to deposit the current state into one of up to four slots.
Design, Controllers & Build
The SNES Mini is much smaller than the original console. The cartridge slot and eject button are just cosmetic; actual controller ports lie behind a flap.
Controllers replicate the feel of original SNES pads. The cables are longer than in the earlier NES Mini, giving more freedom to sit back away from TV. The unit includes two controllers in the box, ready for multiplayer.
Power and reset buttons on top give a satisfying tactile response, similar to original designs, though in miniature.

Strengths & What It Does Well
- The game selection is excellent for nostalgia and solid gameplay value.
- Emulation is faithful; games look and sound close to original experience.
- Save state and rewind features make difficult games more manageable.
- Two controllers included let you play with a friend right away.
- Compact size and plug-and-play setup make it easy to use without fuss.
Weaknesses & What Could Be Better
- Only 21 games included; many classic SNES titles are left out.
- No official support to add more games (though unofficial methods exist).
- Controller cables, though improved, may still feel a bit short for some setups.
- There is no exit or menu button on controller — return to menu via physical reset.
- The console does not come with an AC adapter — you must supply a USB power source.
- Emulation is strong, but occasional graphic or color differences exist compared to original hardware.
Internal Specs & Region Details
The SNES Mini runs Linux on an Allwinner R16 chip with four ARM Cortex-A7 cores. It has 256 MB of RAM and 512 MB of internal storage.
It is not region locked — games from any region work on the device. In Japan, it’s branded as the Classic Mini: Super Famicom but the hardware is largely the same.
Market & Collectible Appeal
When released, the SNES Mini sold out quickly worldwide. It has since gained popularity as a retro gaming collectible. Part of its appeal lies in its official hardware and nostalgic value.
Because Nintendo may stop repair support once spare parts run out, keeping the device intact becomes more important to collectors.
